1.1.1 MOVING DOCK
Much like iOS on the iPad, macOS Mojave puts users' recently-used applications in a special section of the Dock. If this doesn't sound like your cup of tea, it's easy enough to turn off.
After losing my Downloads folder by accidentally deleting it from the Dock and then accidentally deleting it from my Finder folder, I was able to retrieve a Download folder from my home drive, but now it sits on my Desktop and won't be put into my dock. Any help would be appreciated.
Click and hold on the app you wish to put in a folder until it starts wiggling.
It even shows minimized windows and windows from other spaces and is fully drag & drop aware.
Don't hold down any mouse buttons. Just a swipe down from the center of the screen. Gonna try to find a video or something to help.
Alternatively, you can ⌘-click a folder on the Dock—or, indeed, any icon on the Dock—to jump to the window that contains that folder’s icon. (Bonus: This same ⌘-clicking trick also works in the list of Spotlight search results.)

Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of your Mac's screen.
If you understand that much, then the Keep In Dock command makes a lot of sense. It means, “Hello, I’m this program’s icon. I know you don’t normally keep me in your Dock, but I could stay here even after you quit my program. Just say the word.” If you find you’ve been using, for example, Terminal a lot more often than you thought you would, this command may be the ticket.

Curiously —and unlike when you're moving a window —you won't see the Dock moving with you. Rather, you have to click and hold, then drag to the Left, Right or Bottom and let go. Only when you've done that will the Dock will spring to its new position.
When you first set up your Mac, your Dock lives along the bottom of your screen in a translucent rectangle; if you don't like its positioning, you can move it to the left or right of the screen, or have it automatically hide whenever you're not interacting with it. Items are organized as follows, left to right:

Fortunately, this problem is easy to fix. Right-click (or two-finger click) the Dock folder. From the shortcut menu, in the “Display as” section, choose either Folder (which looks like a folder forever) or Stack (which changes to reflect its contents.)
